A message from Michael Maloney, Principal.

Welcome to St Joseph’s Primary School, Dungog. We are located  near the centre of the Dungog township– only two blocks from the main street  and only a short walk to many of the town’s sporting and cultural landmarks.

St Joseph's Primary School recognises the traditional owners of the area, the Gringai people.

St. Joseph’s, Dungog, is a single stream, K – 6, systemic  Catholic Primary School in the Maitland – Newcastle Diocese. The school has  strong links to the Sisters of St Joseph – who commenced teaching here in 1888.  The school draws students from a wide area - including the Dungog, Vacy, Stroud, Martin’s Creek, Clarencetown & Salisbury areas.

Learning at St Joseph’s takes place in very modern, air conditioned classrooms – each equipped with the latest in technology and providing a well – resourced learning environment for the children in our care.

The motto of the school is - “God Is Love”. This motto is  expressed through the Christian values demonstrated in our school life, our involvement within the local and broader community and throughout the curriculum taught each day. Our school is very proud of the high level of support we
provide to and receive from the local community.

The students of St Joseph’s participate in a comprehensive school curriculum – providing programs to cater for the broad range of student
abilities – from the gifted to those who require additional support in order to cater for their needs. Students also have many opportunities and pathways to represent the school, region and Diocese in a variety of sports (team and individual), in Public Speaking, Debating and varied other activities.

The school has a dedicated and committed parent body who have supported the school in a wide variety of activities, Generous financial support
& the provision of time and expertise in a wide variety of areas have been both enjoyed and appreciated by the St Joseph’s School community over the years. Attendance at the regular P & F meetings is encouraged – as is the involvement of parents and friends at the wide variety of activities held during the year.

On behalf of the staff and students, I welcome you to St Joseph’s Primary School, Dungog, and look forward to a long, happy and  supportive relationship with you and your family.

UPCOMING EVENTS

OUR HISTORY

St Joseph’s Primary School Dungog has a proud history, being established in 1888.

Our School Motto is “God  is Love”

The Sisters of St Joseph arrived in Dungog in 1888 and the school was opened on Monday, November 26.

Originally the Sisters lived in Dowling Street.

Bishop Murray directed the building of the convent and new school.

The Sisters moved into the Convent (present Administration) on 14th February 1892.

Since the foundation in 1888 St Joseph’s  School has grown at a steady pace. Additions to the site took place in 1913, 1923, 1952 and 1976. Our new school, as we see it today, began construction in 2006.

OUR FACILITIES

St Joseph’s Primary School Dungog is a modern, fully equipped and  well - resourced school.

The five new classrooms were opened in 2007 and all boast the expectations and requirements of a modern learning spaces. Each room has several computers and is equipped with an interactive white –board to assist and enhance the learning experience for the children in our care. Each room is also centrally heated and cooled to ensure the comfort of all children and staff throughout the year.  The library has a TV set up for virtual excursions and conferencing.

The school also has a bank of laptop computers  stored in our Library - which are utilised by each of the classes throughout the day and week. Another set of laptops are stored in a classroom and we have a set of iPads as well. The ratio of computers allow each student in a class to work individually or collaboratively.  We,  at St. Joseph's, aim to arm our students with the skills they need for a future that will have strong roots in technology.  As such we have Beebots, Edisons and Microbits for robotics/coding experiences which we believe will set them up well for future career choices. All children have access to a variety of Literacy & Numeracy resources which are available online. Each class and student utilises these resources on a regular basis.

Additional improvements were completed as a result of the Federal Government BER funding in 2009 – 2010. As a result, additional storage space was built for school resources, covered walkways were completed, wet –weather play areas were established and the school play equipment area was given a permanent shade structure.

St Joseph’s has a large rainwater tank – which we utilise for “grey water”  & irrigation when required.

The school has a vegetable plot which is cared for by the students and we make compost out of the fruit and food scraps from the children each day.

At St Joseph’s, we focus on the needs of each child in a caring and friendly environment. We welcome any enquiries that you might have. Please feel free to contact the school at any time.
